A scaffold is a “platform” on which cells are reproduced and cell structure is maintained.
Matrix engineering is applied to artificially produce platforms. In regard to biomaterials and processing technologies, Japan is said to lead Western countries.
Bone regeneration material ideally should be 1) absorbed into the patient’s body and 2) replaced by the patient’s own bone over time. Because the skeletal system is continuously exposed to kinetic stress, bone regeneration material itself must have sufficient strength. Also, the bone regeneration material that has been transplanted into the patient’s body and is undergoing the process of replacement by the patient’s own bone must be of substantial durability.
We are now developing the scaffold - which we believe will be a next-generation product in regenerative medicine - by using various subsidies granted to us.
