Developed by ArBlast, M-Stars (Keratinocyte Growth Medium) is a culture medium for research use that is optimized for culturing epithelial cells such as cornea, conjunctiva, skin and oral mucosa. This is especially suitable for the primary culturing of corneal epithelial cells and oral mucosal epithelial cells.

Although three-dimensional culture of corneal epithelial cells or oral mucosal epithelial cells is difficult by any commercially available medium for epithelial cells, it easily become possible by using our M-Stars.

･It’s possible to get normal corneal tissue (in vivo)-like tissue by using our M-Stars.
･In case of using oral mucosal epithelial cells, it’s possible to make a similar cell sheet.

･M-Stars is also applicable to animal cell cultures.

In case of using corneal epithelial cells
Corneal epithelial cells separated from tissue are suspended in M-Stars and then seeded onto tissue culture dishes at a cell density of about 1x104cells/cm2. (At this time, if a cell matrix such as amniotic membrane is coated on the culture dishes, it is confirmed that the cells grow in a good condition. Moreover, using feeder cells, cell growth is further activated.)
* In case of using oral mucosal epithelial cells, the seeded density is 0.1〜2×105cells/cm2.
Medium are changed about every two days in the early culture stage. When cells become confluent in tissue culture dishes and cell growth is activated, medium are changed about twice a day.
Culture period: 2 to 4 weeks.
*M-Stars contains phenol red. As cell growth is activated, the medium color changed from red into yellow. Please change medium before the medium color become yellow.
Cultures are incubated in
5% CO2 at 37oC.
